Our office is moving. From the 5th floor to the 2nd floor in the same building. Why? Donor wants our space. I don't blame them—the view is great. Right over the river, smack in the center of downtown. Great for thunderstorm- and people-watching.
Today's the last day for us to pack. You'd think that moving an office would be easier than moving a house, especially if you're only going down a couple stories, but geeeez we have a lot of stuff. And by "stuff" I really do mean "stuff". Designers come in two varieties: hoarders and minimalists. The majority of our office falls into the "hoarder" category. You never know when that printed sample from 1996 will come in handy.
On the plus side, since I've only been here for a year, I don't have very much to move. Mostly decorations I've put up around my cubicle. I've been trying to pare down the paper sample shelves for the last week, but my boxes labeled "recycle" have been changed to "sort through later, in case someone wants something out of here" (roughly speaking). Bonus: the office is going to Founder's Brewing tomorrow afternoon when the tech guys show up to set up our new network. I secretly hope they can't get it up and running for at least 3 days—Grand Rapids has a lot of breweries, you know.
